St James’ Park, dominating the city skyline in Newcastle upon Tyne, is home to Newcastle United and has been since 1892. Over this time the stadium has undergone many changes but, to date, has remained “The Toon’s” home address whether you choose to call it St James’, St Jame’s or St James’s (all are used around the ground although not on the stadium itself). The 1998 increase in capacity of the Milburn/Leazeas sides of the ground created the largest cantilever structure in Europe and helped make it the 8th largest in England.
As well as hosting the Magpies, St James’ Park has become the preferred “Magic Weekend” venue for Rugby League fans and has hosted international games and pop concerts. Local boy and Mags fan Sam Fender included!
